well this is our first week at WCC
We received a lecture on the geography of Whatcom county the county we are staying in. The lecture was very interesting and we learned a lot about the lay of the land. and how al the geological structures came to be.

In the afternoon Ulli showed us around town, where I found my first landmark for my Photo assignment. This would be the Bellingham city hall. This City hall is not in use as they have a brand new city hall now. There are still activities being done there though. we also saw the salmon pools where little salmons were spawning. Fishing is a pretty big deal seen as Bellingham along the coast.

We also took a trip to Ferndale and went to see a old settler town. This was actually quite nice. A lot of history there and the woman who showed us around had a lot to tell about how the settlers used to live.
The settler buildings were all transported there from various parts of the country which is pretty impressive when seeing all these structures.

Another trip we took was to Lynden. Lynden is a sort of American representation of a dutch village. So you see a lot of windmills and you could even order ´krentenbollen´ at the local bakery.
we visited the local museum which had a lot of history in it. It was quite funny to see old newspapers from during WW2. they even had dutch resistance papers!. Event though it was supposed to be a representation of a dutch town the similarities weren´t really there. but it was funny to see how the Americans see the dutch.

After the excursion to Lynden we had two lectures. One was about the interdisciplinary approach to learning and the other one about interesting aspects of geology of the pacific northwest.
The interdisciplinary approach to learning was really strange and just when you thought you got the general gist of the subject the teacher took a whole other approach to the subject and he left us all just dumbfound and wondering what the lecture was actually about.

The geology lecture was quite interesting. This one was about volcanoes in whatcom county and the geological aspects. pretty interesting seeing as MT. baker is still an active volcano (meaning it has erupted in the last 10.000 years).

Still having fun with my host parents, they're absolutely amazing caring people. Not feeling home sick or anything, so that's quite good.
Feel free to ask me questions ;)

see you later!
